Jayson Molumby lets Carlos Corberan down despite West Brom win v Bristol City

Carlos Corberan will have little to complain about after West Brom got back to winning ways against Bristol City on Sunday.

Mikey Johnston bagged a brace as the Baggies claimed a much-needed 2-0 win at The Hawthorns, with Alex Mowatt and Tom Fellows producing the goods for the winger.

The Robins created few chances of their own, with Alex Palmer not being worked too hard by their attack, so there was not much Corberan could have hoped to improve.

However, one rare negative in the victory at The Hawthorns was midfielder Jayson Molumby, who was dragged off after just 54 minutes and replaced by Uros Racic.

The 25-year-old struggled to match Mowatt’s tempo in the middle of the park, keep up with play or even remain in control against Liam Manning’s players.

In possession, he could only complete 78 per cent of his passes, hit the target with zero per cent of his shots at goal, delivered zero per cent of his crosses, and was even dispossessed four times [FotMob].

Defensively, he was just as poor, winning just 12 per cent of his eight ground duels, making three fouls and picking up a yellow card, and was deservedly hooked before the hour mark.

For a player who ranks in the top 86 percentile for pass completion, the top 84 percentile for progressive carries, and the top 79 percentile for clearances [FBref], Molumby was far from his best.

He will likely be given the opportunity to right his wrongs against Derby County, though, with Corberan limited with his options in the centre of the park.

Racic’s loan spell is reportedly on the chopping block ahead of the January transfer window [DOOD] while Ousmane Diakite has done little to show reason for him being given a spot in the starting XI.

Molumby will definitely need to improve his performance at Pride Park on Boxing Day if he is to keep his own spot, though.
