West Brom duo wowed ex-Albion ace who watched win v Bristol City in Smethwick
Nigel Quashie was particularly impressed by Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows as West Brom secured a deserved 2-0 win over Bristol City on Sunday.
The Baggies got back to winning ways on Sunday (22 December) with Johnston providing the difference as the winger netted both goals in the counter.
Quashie was in attendance at The Hawthorns, alongside ex-Baggies ace Matheus Pereria whose presence led to supporters clamouring for his return.
Johnston and Fellows received praise for their performance from Quashie who took to X to share his thoughts on the game after the win.
His post reads: “Tom Fellows and Michael Johnston are the danger men and let them go at the left and right backs because that’s where assists and goals will come from like today.
“Less sideways and backwards football and West Brom can really have a go over this Christmas and New Year period.
“Great to be in the Smethwick End again.”
Mikey Johnston provides the goods for West Brom
For anyone who has watched Johnston at West Brom, you will be fully aware of the level of quality the winger possesses but it just hasn’t been on showcase for large parts of the season.
However, against the Robins, it certainly was and his performance almost singlehandedly earned the Baggies a crucial three points as they look to maintain their push for promotion.
Josh Maja was another player who impressed supporters despite failing to register a goal contribution in the clash but his all-round play was greatly improved on that from recent showings.
These levels of performance need to be maintained and Carlos Corberan will no doubt be aware of that as a lack of consistency has arguably been the Baggies’ biggest downfall this season.
With an away encounter against Derby County on Boxing Day, West Brom have an excellent opportunity to make it two wins from two and start their mid-season revival after a poor run of form.
