West Brom shock: Valencia now in advanced talks to hire Carlos Corberan

Valencia are closing in on hiring West Brom manager Carlos Corberan to replace Ruben Baraja, according to COPE Valencia.

The Valencian radio broadcaster reported via their website on Monday (23 December) that talks between the managerless La Liga club and Corberan, 41, have “accelerated” in the last few hours.

It is understood that negotiations are now at the final stages but it remains to be seen what Valencia’s stance is on Corberan’s release clause at The Hawthorns.

Valencia announced on Monday afternoon that Baraja had been sacked following his side’s 2-2 draw at home against Alaves on Sunday (22 December).

How much is Corberan’s release clause at West Brom?

There have been some varying reports on how much clubs would have to pay West Brom for them to release Corberan from his contract at The Hawthorns.

Albion insider DOOD reported in September that the Spaniard would cost close to £4million for interested clubs.

However, the Express & Star believes it to be around £2.5million.

Valencia’s finances had been in a very dire state before earlier this year they managed to pay off all their corporate debts.

However, while affairs behind the scenes at the Mestalla have improved, they’ve gone backwards on the pitch with Los Ches currently 19th in La Liga with only two wins in 17 games.

Valencia aren’t the club they once were. However, there’s no denying that they’re one of the biggest teams in Spain and it’s likely that they will be able to sway Corberan into quitting what seems like a thankless job in the Championship to return to his homeland and try it in the big time.
