West Brom are in line to receive around £4million in compensation after Carlos Corberan verbally agreed to join Valencia, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist posted on X (23 December) to report that Corberan has already verbally agreed to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Valencia, after the Spanish side made an approach on Monday.

Corberan's imminent exit from The Hawthorns will come less than two days before the Baggies face Derby County on Boxing Day, but Albion are set to receive £4m in compensation as part of the deal.

Jacobs said: "Carlos Corberán has verbally agreed a 2.5-year contract with Valencia. West Brom set to receive close to £4m in compensation."

Carlos Corberan £4m compensation package huge for West Brom

Losing Corberan, as seems all-but certain now, will be a bitter, bitter blow for Baggies fans to swallow, and could well have just ruined Christmas for large swathes of the Black Country.

The Spaniard departing The Hawthorns after just over two transformational years in charge will surely leave many thinking that Albion could soon be back on a downward, rather than upward trajectory.

However, the Baggies collecting close to £4m in compensation for their manager – an amount which has been enough to ward off several other clubs in recent months – provides a massive silver lining.

Albion's most expensive transfer fee paid this summer – by some distance – saw Mikey Johnston signed from Celtic for £3m, showing that Valencia paying north of this gives them plenty of financial leeway.

With Boxing Day's clash at Derby County fast approaching and replacements for Corberan already lined up, that £4m fee could prove key to bringing in a big name who can match the Spaniard's achievements.
