Liverpool coach John Heitinga in next West Brom manager twist

Liverpool coach John Heitinga has emerged as the new bookies’ favourite for the West Brom manager’s job.

The Dutchman, currently an assistant first-team coach under Arne Slot at the Merseyside outfit, is being linked with a move to the Hawthorns’ dugout.

BettingOdds.com have Heitinga as odds-on favourite at 5/2 to succeed Carlos Corberan, who left Albion for Valencia on Christmas Day.

Former Coventry City boss Mark Robins is the second-favourite to make his way to the West Midlands club, while Russell Martin, Steve Cooper and former Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil make the top five.

West Brom need to make right decision after Carlos Corberan exit

It wasn’t surprising to see Corberan attracting interest from a top team like Valencia in Spain, considering the job he did at the Baggies.

The 41-year-old took over Albion in 2022 after Steve Bruce’s departure, bringing stability back to the West Midlands club.

In the previous campaign, The Hawthorns faithful saw their team make it to the Championship play-offs semi-finals, losing to eventual winners Southampton.

West Brom started the 2024/25 season exceptionally well before struggling to get wins in the second tier of English football.

The Baggies haven’t won many games since the start of October, but the Spanish manager built a robust team that was difficult to beat.

Corberan had 10 draws in his last 16 games in charge of Albion in the Championship, and Valencia are getting an enormous figure in their dugout.

The Hawthorns faithful had their Christmas celebrations ruined by the news of the Spaniard’s departure, and Shilen Patel has a big task on his hands to find the right man for the job – whether that is Heitinga or otherwise.

In other West Brom news, yet another exit has been confirmed from the coaching staff after Corberan’s exit.
