Yet another West Brom exit confirmed after Carlos Corberan

West Brom are losing more staff in the wake of Carlos Corberan’s departure to return to Spain, as goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad bids farewell on social media.

Abad shared a statement on X [26 December] to wish all at Albion well as he joins Corberan through the exit door, after the Spaniard swapped The Hawthorns for Valencia.

Jorge Alarcon is also among those to have left alongside Corberan, after he confirmed his departure on Christmas Day.

Abad wrote: “In these two seasons at West Brom, I have discovered wonderful people, players, teammates from the training ground, and above all my small group of goalkeepers with whom I have enjoyed, laughed and enjoyed [sic] this adventure that football offers us.

“Humanly a fabulous experience of which one can only say, thanks to all those involved in the day-to-day and the family that forms WBA.”

West Brom forced to undergo mass mid-season change

As if the task facing West Brom had not become difficult enough with the remarkable string of draws and frustrating dropped points and injuries, this news has not so far made for a happy Christmas.

While Corberan’s desire to return to a huge club in Spain and look to keep it afloat in La Liga is understandable, it does Shilen Patel and the Baggies very little favour.

With the pragmatic young coach and his staff all heading for pastures new, the chairman is now tasked with a hiring process at a key point in the campaign when the schedule hits its busiest point.

Albion face Derby County on Boxing Day at Pride Park followed by leaders Sheffield United at Bramall Lane three days later. Preston North End visit The Hawthorns for the opening game of 2025 [1 January].

If the promotion push is to somehow be pulled off in the Black Country – having survived all of the prior interest in Corberan – then West Brom are going to achieve it the hard way.

In other West Brom news, another huge chance to prove himself for this Albion midfielder.
