Lee Carsley could be man to take West Brom forward after Carlos Corberan exit
Carlos Corberan’s exit has caused much disappointment among the West Brom fanbase, with the search for his successor now in full swing.
Corberan’s departure was announced on Christmas Eve, which was not the best present for Albion supporters, with countless names in the frame to replace him.
The exit had an effect on the team as they lost 2-1 against Derby County on Thursday (26 December), and with Sheffield United up next, things are not getting easier.
However, with play-offs the aim for the Baggies this season, it is crucial that they don’t drop too many points at this stage, despite being in a transitional period.
With that in mind, the Black Country side will be eager to appoint a replacement as soon as possible to get a new era at the club underway, without rushing the decision that will dictate how their season goes.
Lee Carsley could be the man for West Brom
As the Baggies look for a manager, there will be plenty to weigh up, but one man who has been listed by the bookmakers is former England interim manager Lee Carsley.
The 50-year-old is highly rated due to the work he has done with England both during his spell with the senior team and the Under-21s.
He has had caretaker stints with Coventry City and Birmingham City, as well as a spell in charge from Brentford. From all of his roles, he has a win rate of 63.93 per cent, which is not the worst return.
Furthermore, his Championship experience with the likes of Coventry and Brentford means he knows the level well and respects it rather than the likes of those who see it as a lesser Premier League.
In fact, the manager has already won a Championship Manager of the Month award during his time with Brentford in 2015, which is surely a promising start.
Carsley is still in his role with the Under-21s at England so he would have to be prised away, but the owners are said to be willing to pay compensation for the right appointment.
It’s an appointment that could be seen as a risk, but Carsley has impressed in his coaching roles thus far and seems to be in the same mould as Corberan, meaning he may just be the wisest appointment.
