Russell Martin decides: Huge new West Brom manager update after interview
Russell Martin has turned West Brom down after an interview on Saturday, according to DOOD.
The Albion insider reported on 28 December that the former Southampton boss had an interview on Saturday morning with a view to taking over from Carlos Corberan.
Despite meeting with The Hawthorns hierarchy, the 38-year-old has rejected a move to take over as the Baggies manager.
Russell Martin rejects West Brom after interview
It was certainly a major blow for the Albion to lose the Spanish manager after such a positive two years in charge of the club.
No supporters of the Black Country club will begrudge the ex-Huddersfield Town boss moving on to manage his boyhood club but does leave a hole at The Hawthorns.
With him now gone, Martin could have represented a useful and forward-thinking replacement with one eye on earning promotion.
The former Norwich City defender took Southampton to the Premier League through the Play-Offs which the Baggies would have liked him to replicate in the West Midlands.
His ball-playing philosophy would have been easy on the eye for the Albion faithful but now doesn’t look likely after his interview.
The ex-MK Dons boss has turned down a move to B71 after being sacked by the Saints and it would be interesting to know why he has opted to make that decision.
Now the board at The Hawthorns will consider new options as they look to make a swift appointment in the dugout.
There have been many names linked but it seems an option towards the top of the list has opted against taking the job on.
