West Brom given boost ahead of Sheffield United clash after early team news
West Brom have been given a boost ahead of their upcoming game against Sheffield United after Chris Wilder shared early team news.
The Baggies kicked off life without Carlos Corberan, who departed to Valencia this week, with a 2-1 loss against Derby County on Thursday (26 December).
Things get tougher too with a clash against Sheffield United on Sunday (29 December), who will be looking to bounce back after a 2-0 loss against Burnley – a game they finished with 10 men after Harry Souttar limped off the pitch injured.
Chris Wilder’s update suggests the Blades will be struggling with injuries against Albion as said, as per The Star [27 December]: “We lost Rhys Norrington-Davies to illness and Rhian [Brewster] wasn’t great in the last couple of days.
“Vini’s (Vinicius Souza) hamstring tightened up and Jes (Jesurun Rak-Sakyi) wasn’t able to be involved because of a tight hamstring he had off the back of the game at Cardiff.
“They’re minor blows, but there might be a big blow coming with Souttar because that didn’t look great, and his reaction to coming off wasn’t good. He’s a brave old soldier but that didn’t look great.
“So we’ll have to wait and see what the results of the scans are. It doesn’t look good, but we’ll see what happens when the results of the scan come through.”
West Brom have to try to take advantage of Sheffield United injuries
As Albion look to try and appoint Corberan’s successor at The Hawthorns, things will not be completely easy for the side as they try to adapt to life without their boss in charge and that proved to be the case as they lost against Derby.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United will be eager to get back to winning ways and pick up three points with the opportunity to return to the top of the table depending on other results.

However, with Souttar, who has been a mainstay in Wilder’s side, missing out as well as other injury concerns in the side, this could give the Baggies an opportunity to get on top in this game and come away with something.
The Black Country side have shown their ability to produce organised performances this season, and if they can muster up that level of display against their opponents on Sunday, Wilder could well find his worries increasing.
In other West Brom news, Grady Diangana’s future at The Hawthorns is uncertain after what happened recently.
