Tom Fellows exit: BBC WM man shares official West Brom stance on January sale

West Brom have insisted that they do not need to sell Tom Fellows in January, according to Steve Hermon.

Fellows had been considered a prime candidate for a sale due to potential Profit and Sustainability issues that the club is still facing as a result of the disastrous Guochuan Lai era.

The 21-year-old had been linked with a move to Premier League club Everton in the January transfer window by Sky Sports commentator Guy Havord last week during the Baggies 2-0 win over Bristol City. [22 December, 15:40]

However, the BBC Radio WM reporter revealed the stance in a column on Albion’s transfer business [28 December], saying: “I’m sure there will be speculation surrounding winger Tom Fellows but Albion rejected a £10m bid from Southampton in the summer and insist they don’t need to sell anybody”.

West Brom need to keep Fellows

The young star came through the academy at The Hawthorns and is a fan favorite as a result.

His performances have been sensational so far this season, with the winger notching nine assists and one goal in 23 Championship matches.

Any fee for Fellows is expected to be in excess of the £10 million that the club rejected from Southampton last summer, which would help steer the club away from financial misery.

Southampton will likely join Albion in the second tier next season based on their current form in the top tier so that move is probably dead in the water.

However, Everton represents a whole different threat after the Friedkin Group completed their takeover, flush with cash and likely to be able to offer the player a chance to play in the top flight.

While a potential eight-figure fee would certainly help with PSR issues, the Baggies must avoid a fire sale of their best assets and resist any interest in Fellows.
