Rob Hawthorne spoke about the possibility of John Heitinga becoming Carlos Corberan's successor at West Brom.

The 41-year-old is currently Arne Slot's assistant coach at Liverpool but has emerged as one of the contenders to become the next head coach at The Hawthorns [Paul Joyce].

Albion have been left with the trio of Chris Brunt, Boaz Myhill and Damia Abella, who oversaw the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday (29 December), but only until a new manager is found.

Speaking live via Sky Sports Main Event [29 December, 6:53pm], Hawthorne said: "Arne Slot's coaching staff includes a man who knows his way around here. Heitinga was an assistant here to David Moyes.

"He's one of the names being linked with the vacant managerial position at West Brom. Who knows? He could soon be setting off on his own route as a head coach."

West Brom continue managerial search after Corberan exit

The Baggies are in no mood to make a rash decision when it comes to finding Corberan's successor, and rightly so after the brilliant work he did at The Hawthorns.

The Spaniard became a much-loved figure in the Midlands during his two years in charge, helping lead the Baggies up the Championship table, though they have been left in a precarious position.

With their 1-1 draw against the Blades, they are one point outside the Championship play-off spots, and if they are to claim promotion to the Premier League, the right man needs to be in charge.

It is understood that the club could even wait until their FA Cup clash against Bournemouth on 11 January, which shows just how serious a decision this is following Corberan's impact on the club.

Heitinga could certainly be the man to take over, but with so many different links, supporters will be kept right on the edge of their seats until an official announcement is made at The Hawthorns.
