West Brom next manager: Williams new favourite as odds crash after Swansea news

Swansea manager Luke Williams has been installed as SkyBet’s favourite for the vacancy at West Brom.

SkyBet have opened their market for the Albion new manager with Williams, 43, the current front-runner after being priced at 9/4.

Liverpool assistant coach John Heitinga (9/2) and former Coventry manager Mark Robins (5/1) are also in the mix at this stage after Carlos Corberan left The Hawthorns to join Valencia on Christmas Eve.

Williams signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at Swansea in January 2024 but he’s now been linked with the job at West Brom, who are willing to pay compensation to hire a manager who’s currently in work.

Will West Brom hire Luke Williams to replace Carlos Corberan?

On 29 December, Chris Lepkowski reported that Albion have “some interest” in the former Notts County manager.

That same day, the London-born boss was asked about links to The Hawthorns.

As quoted by BBC Sport, he said: “I love Swansea so we’ll see.

“I don’t believe that’s true for a start. Secondly, we have a game every three days so I’ve well and truly got my head down and I’m not interested in that for the time being.

“I think we’re really in the middle of something here. I hope it’s just the middle, if that makes sense.”

It would be a bit of a shock if Albion do go for Williams.

The 43-year-old is known for his attacking, possession-based style of play, which will massively contradict the more pragmatic tactics employed by Corberan.

While the Spaniard was widely criticised for failing to let his team go forward and attack, the Baggies were easily one of the best teams in the Championship when out of possession.

Swansea, however, have three points less than West Brom and have only scored one more goal, so it remains to be seen whether or not this would be a good fit for both Albion and for Williams himself.
