West Brom new manager: Andrew Nestor dodges bullet after latest twist

West Brom appear to have dodged a bullet after it was reported that Lee Carsley turned down the opportunity to become their new manager.

Andrew Nestor’s search for Carlos Corberan’s successor goes on with Carsley said to have turned down the role at The Hawthorns (Graeme Bailey) on 31 December.

While an appointment is needed urgently, it appears to have been a blessing in disguise with Carsley rejecting the chance given his failures during an interim spell in charge of England as well as his lack of experience at club level.

Mark Robins is another name to have seemingly been ruled out with him set to take over the reins at Stoke City (Paul Joyce) following the sacking of Narcis Pelach.

Baggies supporters will be hoping a swift resolution is found to the managerial uncertainty but they can breathe a sigh of relief with Carsley unlikely to remain in the running.

West Brom need a resolution imminently

While a swift appointment is needed at The Hawthorns, West Brom must ensure that their next one is appropriate otherwise the success achieved by Corberan could be completely unravelled.

The Spaniard took the Baggies from a relegation place to a side capable of challenging near the top of the Championship while installing some remarkably strong foundations for someone else to build on but that can only be achieved if the right candidate is appointed.

West Brom will undoubtedly be looking to utilise the January window to its full potential but uncertainty over who will be in charge has potential to scupper those plans.

Very few players will be willing to join a club without any indication as to who they will be playing under or what they are likely to be required to do.

The next few weeks will be crucial for the Baggies and their chances of achieving promotion back to the Premier League could hinge on the decisions made over that period.

Nestor simply has to get this right.

In other West Brom news, this player could join a Premier League club for £9.9m.
