West Brom new manager: Chris Brunt hire now on the cards – Sky Sports

West Brom could turn to offering Chris Brunt the manager’s job on a permanent basis, according to ex-Preston boss Ryan Lowe.

Lowe, speaking with host Julian Warren on Sky Sports Soccer Special [1 January, 15:41], gave his view after seeing his former side Preston North End fall three goals behind during the first half against the Baggies at The Hawthorns.

Brunt had so far picked up a draw and a defeat during his temporary reign, after Carlos Corberan left for Valencia over the Christmas period.

“Chris Brunt is the caretaker manager, is he throwing his hat in the ring, Ryan?”, Warren posed.

“Well, why not?,” Lowe responded.

“There’s me out of a job saying ‘why not’!”

Warren added: “That is actually the first time they’ve scored three in a home game this season.”

West Brom considering every option

Everyone associated with West Brom knows the magnitude of the void left by such a talented young coach as Corberan, who returns to his homeland.

However, it comes as a positive show of faith in Albion legend Brunt by the board that they appear in no hasty rush to appoint the Spaniard’s successor.

The Baggies have been linked with some established names throughout the EFL including in-post Championship managers such as Blackburn Rovers’ John Eustace [DOOD, 28 December]; Swansea City’s Luke Williams had appeared to pull his name from the running but remains favourite as of Wednesday afternoon.

John Heitinga is also a name that refuses to budge, the Dutchman currently part of Arne Slot’s coaching staff at high-flying Liverpool.

But as seen countless times down the years across the nation, it is incredible what a resounding victory in interim charge could do for a coach’s long-term stock.
