Caleb Taylor may head for swift West Brom exit as manager speaks out

Caleb Taylor may return to Wycombe Wanderers if he does not break into the first team at West Brom this month, according to Matt Bloomfield.

The Chairboys manager expressed his gratitude towards the Baggies for sending Taylor on loan to them after they recalled him on 2 January and left the door open for the defender to return on another temporary stint before the window closes on 3 February.

Bloomfield pointed out that the 21-year-old cannot play for any other club this season having already featured for Albion and Wycombe, meaning he could be sent back to the League One club.

“Our club have been having some interaction with their club, but I’ve not been a part of those conversations, so I don’t know”, he told WanderersTV (2 January).

“We have to hope that maybe that might change. He’s played for West Brom and he’s played for us this season, so he can only play for one of those two clubs, the same with Aaron [Morley].

“Those two boys are only available to play for their parent club or for us for the rest of the season.

“So, if he doesn’t break into the first team there, maybe he can come back, but we’re just not sure.

“We have to be really, really thankful to West Brom for allowing us to have him for this period of time, for trusting us with his development.

“We believe a huge amount in development. If there is a chance for us to revisit it, then we’ll have to see what that looks like.”

West Brom to assess Caleb Taylor before Wycombe Wanderers decision

It would not be a surprise if the Baggies sent Taylor back to Wycombe before the ongoing transfer window closed next month.

West Brom are currently stretched thin in defence, with Paddy McNair returning to the United States after his loan spell and Semi Ajayi sidelined with an injury.

Carlos Corberan hinted at the possibility of making defensive reinforcements before making his switch to Valencia on Christmas Eve.

However, it would not make sense to bring in new players before they have a head coach in place.

That is probably why the Championship club have decided to bring Taylor back from his loan at Wycombe.

Once West Brom have hired a new boss, they are likely to enter the market for a new defender and, in turn, allow the youngster to return to Bloomfield’s team.
