Luke Williams agent in talks with West Brom despite official Swansea update

West Brom have been in talks with the agent of Luke Williams despite the Swansea City boss playing down links with the managerial vacancy at The Hawthorns, according to DOOD.

The West Brom insider reported via X (2 January) that talks between the two parties have been ongoing for a number of days.

Although Chris Brunt is unbeaten in two of his three games in charge of the Baggies, Albion will be eager to get a permanent replacement in as soon as possible with the January transfer window underway.

Williams distanced himself from the vacancy on Wednesday (1 January) as he told Alex Crook: “Well, I’m not sure they want my future to be here after just watching that performance. I certainly haven’t had any contact from West Brom.”

However, DOOD backed up the the links by posting: “His agent has been in talks with Baggies for a few days now. He can’t rule it out but he can’t also come out and be open. But his choice of words is definitely odd.”

Luke Williams to West Brom?

Despite Carlos Corberan’s departure from The Hawthorns, Brunt has overseen the transition well so far which will only put more pressure on the owners to get the permanent appointment correct in order to serve the club going forward.

With that in mind, it’s not a surprise to see Williams connected with the role as a manager who is looking to take his Swansea side to the play-offs this term.

So far the 44-year-old has been keen to distance himself from the job in the Black Country as he looks to continue the project he is working on in South Wales.

However, after a 4-0 loss against a struggling Portsmouth side on Wednesday (1 January), the boss could be inspired not to pass up on an opportunity to take a move further up the Championship.

Either way, this is a saga that needs to come to an end soon with the contradiction surely a distraction for people in both camps.
