West Brom to listen to January bids for player as surprise verdict delivered

Jed Wallace is free to leave West Brom in January if a suitable offer arrives, according to DOOD.

The reliable Baggies X account reported on Thursday (2 January) that the 30-year-old is on the chopping block at The Hawthorns, but adds it would be a “surprise” if any clubs can match his current salary.

Wallace has suffered the wrath of the West Brom faithful on several occasions this season despite being resigned to a bit-part role after losing his starting role in the West Midlands to rising star Tom Fellows.

West Brom could sell Jed Wallace in January

Interim Baggies boss Chris Brunt has Fellows, Mikey Johnston, Karlan Grant and Grady Diangana to call upon for his options on the wings.

Therefore, with Wallace firmly in the back of the pecking order and approaching the twilight years of his career, it makes perfect sense to pursue a sale.

West Brom moved back into the playoff places after the 3-1 win against Preston North End on Wednesday (1 January), and should top-flight promotion be achieved this year, Wallace would undoubtedly be surplus to requirements.

The Englishman lauded the impact of former Albion boss Carlos Corberan for his efforts this year before departing for Valencia, and it appears that with the Spaniard gone, Wallace’s future at The Hawthorns is gone along with him.

Wallace is a true staple of the Championship, having accumulated 336 appearances in the second tier, but his 12 goals and 13 assists in 114 outings for West Brom leaves a lot to be desired.

It is doubtful he will have a recognisable impact for the Baggies next year, and considering he is one of the highest earners on the wage bill, it makes sense for Shilen Patel to listen to offers.

In other West Brom news, a fresh update has emerged at The Hawthorns in the search for a Carlos Corberan replacement.
