Real Madrid watch West Brom after surprise Carlo Ancelotti admission

Steve Hermon is surprised Real Madrid have been watching West Brom games to study Carlos Corberan.

The BBC journalist was bemused that the La Liga giants looked at the Baggies’ games under Corberan, who is now Valencia’s manager.

Los Blancos take on Los Ches on Friday (3 January), and Carlo Ancelotti admitted to examining the West Midlands club ahead of the fixture.

Hermon wrote on his personal X account (2 January): “Real Madrid have been watching West Brom games. Who’d have thought that a few weeks ago?”

West Brom need the right Carlos Corberan successor

The Hawthorns witnessed a resurgence in form under Corberan after his arrival.

In the previous campaign, the 41-year-old head coach took The Albion to the play-off semi-finals.

The Baggies started the 2024/25 campaign on the front foot, but the displays dwindled during the Spanish manager’s final few months.

Corberan left West Brom in a good spot, though, and they now sit sixth in the Championship table after the 3-1 win over Preston on New Year’s Day.

Chris Brunt has taken interim charge of the Black Country outfit and managed to get his first win in the dugout at the Hawthorns against the Lilywhites.

Shilen Patel and the rest of the hierarchy have a massive decision to make regarding the new head coach, and it remains to be seen who will succeed the Spaniard.

The Hawthorns faithful expect The Albion to attain a play-off spot once again, and failure to do so will be a blemish on what has been a decent season so far for them.

In other West Brom news, offers will be considered for one player in the January transfer window.
