West Brom next manager: Ex-Brighton coach now odds-on favourite despite update

Swansea manager Luke Williams has emerged as the bookmakers’ odds-on favourite to succeed Carlos Corberan at West Brom despite a recent update.

Lewis Cox, a reporter for the Express and Star, reported on 2 January that the former West Ham and Brighton youth coach was not a contender for the vacancy.

However, the ex-Notts County boss’ odds have been slashed with Sky Bet and he is now the 1/4 favourite to take over at The Hawthorns.

Liverpool coach John Heitinga had previously been considered the leading contender but he is now an 11/1 outsider for the role.

West Brom manager saga finally concluding?

The Baggies have been without a manager since Corberan left for Valencia on Christmas Day in a crushing blow for supporters.

However, Chris Brunt has impressed in interim charge of Albion, taking the West Midlands club back into the Championship playoff places with a 3-1 win over Preston on Wednesday (1 January).

The saga finally looks set to come to an end with the Swans boss being reduced to such a low price with the oddsmakers.

Williams is an exciting appointment as he has enjoyed a rapid rise up the Football League so far but his record this season will worry Baggies supporters.

The Welsh club have won nine Championship matches this season, drawing six and losing ten with his side sitting 12th in the division and ironically face Albion next on Saturday (4 January).

Some supporters will just be relieved that the managerial search is nearing the end and the club can get on with making improvements on the pitch and off it in the January transfer window.
