Carlos Corberan shocked West Brom when he departed for Valencia over Christmas, and supporters of the Spanish club were all smiles after his first game in charge.

While the Baggies are relaxed about the situation and willing to take the appropriate time to appoint a sure-fire successor, the unexpected loss still hits hard in the West Midlands.
The Valencia supporters, meanwhile, are delighted with their new boss.
West Brom left bittersweet as Carlos Corberan impresses at Valencia
Shilen Patel is facing the most important decision of his West Brom tenure, and although interim boss Chris Brunt has done a steady job so far, a new leader is needed sooner rather than later.
Swansea City boss Luke Williams is now said to be out of the running for Albion [Wales Online], and the Baggies may be swayed into accelerating the search after seeing how the Valencia supporters have taken to Corberan.
Despite suffering a late 2-1 loss at home against Real Madrid in his first match in charge on Friday (3 January), many took note of the instant improvements on the pitch.
One supporter said on X: “Yes, my friend, it’s better already. I was surprised how in five days Corberan got involved.”
Another supporter waxed lyrical about the Spaniard, saying: “Corberan is going to be our Ted Lasso, we have lost the first match of his Cruyff era but now we are going to make a historic comeback.”

West Brom cannot begrudge Corberan for jumping at the opportunity to manage his boyhood club as they fight a relegation battle in LaLiga.
However, the circumstances and, more importantly, the timing of his departure are not ideal, and with Premier League promotion on the line, whoever is chosen to lead the new era at The Hawthorns will shape the rest of the season and beyond.
