West Brom caught in Tottenham-like controversy after incident today
Sam Allison was correct not to give Swansea City a penalty against West Brom on Saturday, Keith Hackett has said.
The Baggies drew 1-1 in South Wales on 4 January after Tom Fellows’ goal, but Darnell Furlong appeared to handle the ball while it was goalless.
Allison decided it was accidental from the defender, but it didn’t matter much as Joe Allen scored late on to agonisingly secure a point for the home side.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, the ex-PGMOL chief shared his view after Furlong appeared to handle the ball in the box.
“The Swansea incident is very similar to the Tottenham one with the ball striking the defender’s hand,” Hackett said.

“Accidental for me and not worthy of a penalty kick.”

Tottenham were left outraged by a decision not to disallow a goal from Anthony Gordon in the 2-1 defeat against Newcastle after the ball hit Joelinton’s hand.
It looks as though officials are being told to be less strict with decisions in this area, with Furlong and Joelinton both avoiding punishment.
With Allen scoring late on to split the points, the Baggies are currently sixth after Saturday’s action in the Championship, staying in the play-offs for now.
