Raphael Wicky now odds-on favourite to be new West Brom manager in Sunday shock
Raphael Wicky has emerged as the odds-on favorite for the West Brom job in a shocking twist on Sunday.
The former FC Basel, Chicago Fire and BSC Young Boys manager was not even a contender with the oddsmakers on Sunday morning (5 January).
However, he was installed as the third-favourite to replace Carlos Corberan by Sky Bet at 3/1 later in the day.
Now, the 47-year-old’s odds have been slashed to 5/6 meaning that the bookmakers’ think his appointment is imminent.
West Brom manager race still up the air
The Baggies are no closer to appointing their next manager with the bookmakers’ favourite seemingly changing every day.
Swansea manager Luke Williams was the odds-on favorite on 3 January but is now seemingly out of the race just two days later, priced at 12/1 now with Sky Bet.
Chris Brunt has impressed in interim charge of Albion, taking the West Midlands club back into the playoff places after a 3-1 win over Preston (1 January) and a draw against Williams’ side (4 January).

However, if they want to maintain their position to potentially win promotion, they need to get a permanent manager in the door quickly, so that they can implement tactics and take advantage of the transfer market.
Wicky is an unknown but he provides promise, having won a double in Switzerland with Young Boys in the 2022/23 season before leaving the club in 2024.
Only time will tell if he is Corberan’s replacement at The Hawthorns with the bookmakers seemingly playing a guessing game at the moment.
In other West Brom news, Baggies supporters think a new manager appointment is imminent following an update from Shilen Patel.
