Raphael Wicky to jet in for West Brom manager talks on Monday

Raphael Wicky is set to jet in for talks to become the new West Brom manager on either Monday or Tuesday, according to DOOD.

The Baggies expert shared the news in a post on X on 5 January after news emerged linking the former FC Basel boss with the vacancy.

The 47-year-old was not even considered by the bookmakers earlier in on Sunday but was the odds-on favourite by the afternoon at odds of 5/6.

The insider added that nothing is agreed at the moment with the Swiss manager.

Wicky a left-field appointment for West Brom

The former Chicago Fire boss is a surprise contender to replace Carlos Corberan who departed for Valencia on Christmas Day.

His most successful managerial spell was his time at BSC Young Boys where he won a Swiss double in the 2022/23 season before leaving in 2024.

Albion currently find themselves in the final playoff place in the Championship under the interim management of Chris Brunt.

They need to get the next appointment right to continue the good work that Corberan and Brunt have done so far this season and ensure a playoff berth.

The new manager can then begin planning for his tactical approach and the January transfer window with the Baggies hoping for a return to the Premier League.

The saga could finally be set to come to a close if talks are successful and then the Baggies can fully focus on events on the pitch.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are interested in a cut-price deal for a young Rangers star.
