West Brom reach out to Liverpool over Lewis Koumas loan deal

West Brom have enquired to Liverpool regarding the availability of Stoke City loanee Lewis Koumas, according to the Daily Mail.

The British tabloid reported via its website (7 January) that the Baggies have joined Watford and Sheffield United in sounding out the conditions for a loan move from the Premier League leaders.

While Liverpool are pleased with the forward’s progress in the Championship, Arne Slot could be tempted to listen to Albion’s proposal – with Jed Wallace on the chopping block [DOOD], there will be plenty of first-team opportunities for Koumas at The Hawthorns.

West Brom could sign Lewis Koumas in January

Koumas, son of Albion great Jason Koumas, would be a sensational coup for West Brom after his impact at the Bet365 Stadium this season.

Stoke are rooted in a relegation battle in the Championship this year, so it makes little sense for a player of Koumas’ quality to allow a relegation to stain his CV.

Wales boss Craig Bellamy dubbed the forward “fearless” after his displays with the national side [The Guardian, 28 August 2024].

But despite his impressive displays for club and country, the 19-year-old has contributed four goal contributions thus far, and while this can be attributed to Stoke’s poor league form, the record leaves a lot to be desired.

He may be playing week in and week out with the Potters, but the prospect of helping West Brom achieve Premier League promotion, paired with playing alongside top second-tier players, should be enough to convince Liverpool to sanction the deal.

Furthermore, Everton are planning to test the waters with an offer for Tom Fellows this month, as per the Daily Mail (6 January), and the Baggies could be tempted to sell should they receive a substantial up-front sum.

Indeed, there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding The Hawthorns following the departure of Carlos Corberan, but West Brom are still in the hunt for a playoff finish this term.

Koumas has proven he has all the tools to succeed in the Championship – Liverpool should not deny him the opportunity to take his game to the next level in the West Midlands.
