West Brom new manager: Rene Hake now in talks to take over
West Brom are in talks to potentially hire Rene Hake as their new manager, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported on 8 January that the Baggies have opened dialogue with the former Manchester United assistant coach under Erik ten Hag.
It is said that while Hake is available, he is one of three main candidates to take over from Carlos Corberan at The Hawthorns after his move to Valencia.
Rene Hake to become new West Brom manager?
This would be a real left-field appointment from Shilen Patel and Andrew Nestor.
While Championship experience is not a necessity, it is hard to hit the ground running as a new manager when promotion to the Premier League is the immediate goal.
That being said, the likes of Daniel Farke and Regis Le Bris didn’t have it when first coming to England, and the German has moulded himself into a specialist.
Hake does have critical experience of the English game though, with the boiling-hot pressure of Manchester United and Old Trafford on his CV, which will only help.
These early talks don’t mean he will be appointed at The Hawthorns, but the fact his name has come out of nowhere shows that he is right at the top of the list.
With the Baggies preparing for FA Cup action next up, it hands them time to hire a new manager and give him that space for the return of the Championship next week.
Could it be Hake? Time will tell.
