West Brom next manager: Shock name new odds-on fave amid Fabrizio Romano update

Rene Hake is now odds-on favourite to become West Brom manager after the latest update shared by Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported on 8 January that the Baggies were in talks with the former Manchester United coach over the vacant role in The Hawthorns dugout.

The Dutchman has now been named as the favourite to take over from Carlos Corberan with his odds now sitting at 4/6 [Sky Bet, 8 January].

This sees the former member of Erik ten Haag’s coaching staff placed ahead of Urs Fischer at 5/2, John Eustace and Raphael Wicky at 6/1 and Steven Schumacher at 10/1.

Rene Hake now favourite for West Brom manager role

The former Go Ahead Eagles head coach has quickly become a frontrunner for the job in the West Midlands despite recent links to the likes of Luke Williams and Wicky.

Given that the 53-year-old’s last job was not as a manager, but rather as part of the coaching team at Old Trafford, that may come as a concern.

Hake certainly represents more of an unknown quantity for many supporters at The Hawthorns but it now looks as if he is preparing to take over.

The Dutchman has plenty of experience in the Eredivisie with Utrecht and FC Twente who are well-respected sides in the division.

This should hand Baggies fans some comfort, regardless of his lack of managerial experience outside of his homeland.

It is clear that the hierarchy in B71 have an idea of the type of manager they want to replace Corberan and Hake seems to fit in with that vision.

In other West Brom news, the board are said to be the “real deal” as a “proper coup” tipped to become the new manager.
