FA ban: Josh Maja will be thrilled as West Brom rivals suffer huge blow
West Brom star Josh Maja will be thrilled that Borja Sainz has been suspended in the race for the Championship Golden Boot.
The Baggies star has already netted 12 goals across his 26 appearances this season, the second most in the division behind the Norwich City star.
The Spaniard has scored 15 for the Canaries who sit just four points behind the managerless Albion in the race for a playoff finish.
Now the Nigeria international and The Hawthorns club are likely to be thrilled after the latest suspension update at Carrow Road.
Josh Maja and West Brom thrilled by Borja Sainz update at Norwich
The Yellows confirmed on 10 January that the 23-year-old had been fined £12,000 by the FA and also suspended for six matches.
This comes after the attacking midfielder admitted to spitting at an opponent during his side’s 2-1 defeat against Sunderland (21 December).
As a result, Sainz will be absent from Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side until mid-February which could give Maja a chance to overtake him in the top-scorer race.
The Baggies have fixtures coming up against Stoke City, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle which represent positive opportunities for the 26-year-old to add to his season’s tally.
As well as being a boost on a personal level for the forward, it will be an excellent chance for Albion to extend their lead away from the East Anglians in the Championship table.
Given how important the Spaniard has been for the Canaries in the past two seasons, his absence will certainly be a blow for them and a boost at The Hawthorns.
