Rene Hake hire: Dutch source shares latest on West Brom new manager hunt
Rene Hake has spoken with West Brom about becoming Carlos Corberan’s successor, according to Voetbal International.
The Dutch source reports [10 January] that the former Manchester United assistant coach has moved into the frame with the Baggies without a permanent manager since Corberan’s move to Valencia.
It is understood that, despite several candidates being in the picture to take over at The Hawthorns, clarity is expected soon, with several European clubs keeping an eye on Hake, who has been out of work since Erik ten Hag’s sacking at Old Trafford.
However, former BSC Young Boys boss Raphael Wicky is now believed to be in advanced talks with the Baggies after meeting with the board in London this week [John Percy], emerging as the preferred choice.
West Brom continue manager search as new Rene Hake update emerges
With the Baggies’ upcoming match against Bournemouth in the FA Cup, and the club much more likely to be focusing on the league campaign, there is a little more time to decide on the next manager.
Considering how well-loved Corberan was at The Hawthorns, Shilen Patel has been left with an incredibly difficult position when it comes to finding his successor this month.
While Albion have secured five points from their last three games, draws have been the bane of the Baggies’ lives so far this season, seeing them slip further down the Championship table.
After such a first start, Corberan had led the side to the top of the table, but with a drop in form and multiple injury woes, the team are now sitting in sixth and without a manager.

Blackburn Rovers are hot on their heels, just a point behind in seventh, with Bristol City narrowly behind in eighth. If the Baggies are to claim a play-off spot this season, a permanent manager needs to be found quickly.
Hake has plenty of experience across the Eredivisie, managing the likes of Utrecht, FC Twente and Go Ahead Eagles, and now remains in prime position due to his spell in Manchester.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies have set their demands for the transfer of Tom Fellows.
