West Brom next manager: Tony Mowbray odds slashed in unexpected twist
Tony Mowbray could be on for a shock return to The Hawthorns after his odds to become the next West Brom manager significantly shortened.
As of Friday morning (10 January), Mowbray is now priced at just 6/1 with BetVictor to succeed Carlos Corberan and return to Albion, with whom he earned promotion to the Premier League and an FA Cup semi-final in 2008.
Mowbray, 61, is currently working towards what will be an emotional return to football management following his battle with illness, which forced him to step down as Birmingham City boss in early 2024.
Rene Hake (8/11) remains odds-on favourite leading into Friday, with Chris Brunt preparing to take charge of the Baggies for what is anticipated to be the final time as interim boss against AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup (11 January).
Tony Mowbray closer to West Brom return frame
While Hake stays as favourite and Raphael Wicky is certainly not out of the equation yet either, Mowbray does remain a relative outsider to succeed Corberan.
But the idea of the experienced manager making a comeback at West Brom would be an intriguing one for sure. He is a superb individual but also a competitor, with a point to prove that he still has it in him to challenge for a Premier League return.
Mowbray took over Albion early in the 2006-07 season, tasked with taking the team back to the top flight at the first time of asking. The club narrowly missed out, losing 1-0 in the Championship play-off final to Derby County who went on to endure the worst Premier League campaign in history.

At the same time, Mowbray’s Baggies were building a superb run and eventually made it back in 2008, all the while reaching the final four of the FA Cup and giving the supporters another day out at Wembley.
He left for Celtic in 2009 after relegation from the Premier League, but is still fondly thought of by many of the Albion fanbase. Whether that’s enough to be keen on a return as manager remains to be seen.
