West Brom fans destroy Mason Holgate v Bournemouth: ‘Atrocious’, ‘Send him back’
Mason Holgate bore the brunt of West Brom fan fury after the 5-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Despite Caleb Taylor giving his side the lead early on at the Vitality Stadium on 12 January, both Holgate and the Baggies soon fell to pieces as the hosts went 3-1 up by half-time.
Dango Ouattara tormented the Everton loanee, almost winning a penalty before scoring for the hosts, before turning Holgate all too easy to send Bournemouth on their way to victory.
West Brom fans don’t hold back on ‘awful’ Mason Holgate
Holgate was far from the only Albion player to be a clear second-best to their Bournemouth counterpart, with Taylor particularly shaky following his opening goal in the 14th minute.
Supporters en masse lambasted the 28-year-old though, with one saying “everything just looks so easy” for attackers coming up against him and his “constant” mistakes putting Albion in danger.
With the centre-back described as “stealing a living” by one fan in response to another calling him a “disgrace”, Holgate’s “awful” performance was seen as both lacking in quality and attitude.
Other fans expressed how they’re “sick and tired” of seeing Holgate put in “woeful” displays at the back for the Baggies, exacerbating the decision to rest Kyle Bartley at the Vitality Stadium.

Everton, Holgate’s parent club, were begged to recall the Jamaica international by Albion fans in their droves, with one saying “it’s not 2019 anymore” to highlight how much the defender has declined since.
One fan questioned how Everton have “put up with him” in the six years since his first loan spell, with the Toffees being tagged in another post to somehow recall Holgate before half-time.
Even a return to Everton wasn’t enough for another Baggies fan though, who said they’d rather see Holgate sent to “the shadow realm” as opposed to Goodison Park; summing up a day to forget.
With a new manager set to be announced shortly, change could soon arrive.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are keen on signing a “forgotten” man from one of the UK’s biggest clubs this month.
