Everton set to appoint 55-year-old in new West Brom manager contention

West Brom are set to miss out on Billy McKinlay to Everton, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via their website on 11 January that McKinlay has been in contention to become the Baggies’ new head coach after Carlos Corberan’s departure.

However, David Moyes hopes to have the 55-year-old as a part of his backroom staff after replacing Sean Dyche as Everton’s new manager.

West Brom to hire Raphael Wicky as Carlos Corberan replacement

Albion have been without a head coach since Corberan’s move to Valencia was announced on Christmas Eve, with Chris Brunt on interim duty.

The West Midlands outfit have since been linked with a host of managers, with talks held with a few.

It appears they have zeroed in on Raphael Wicky as their ideal candidate to replace Corberan, having entered into advanced negotiations with him [The Telegraph].

Wicky has emerged as the top name on the Baggies’ list after impressing them during talks in London this week.

It now remains to be seen if and when the Championship club can shake hands with the former Young Boys boss and make an announcement.

He may be in charge of the team in time for their home game against Stoke City next Saturday (19 January).

McKinlay, meanwhile, would have been an interesting appointment at The Hawthorns as he has not held a managerial position since 2015 when he was at Stabaek.

He has long been serving as Moyes’ assistant and is on course to do the same at Everton.
