Josh Maja exit: Chelsea transfer update emerges amid £15m claim
West Brom have not received a transfer enquiry from Chelsea for Josh Maja, according to DOOD.
The reliable Baggies insider reported via X (12 January) that the West London outfit have not approached Albion for Maja, while reports of a Tottenham enquiry remain uncertain.
Spanish news outlet Fichajes reported on Saturday (11 January) that the Premier League duo are “seriously considering” Maja this month.
However, said claims are wide of the mark according to DOOD, as the Nigerian continues to attract attention across Europe, with his future at The Hawthorns far from decided.
West Brom do not have to worry about Josh Maja joining Chelsea
While it is unsurprising that a Spanish-based news outlet got it wrong about Maja, he remains a hot commodity in the January transfer window.
The report claimed West Brom will demand £15million to release Maja this month – the fee is pocket change for top-flight sides, but it is undoubtedly a reasonable fee for a Championship outfit.
LaLiga duo Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo are also known admirers of the Baggies top goalscorer and are willing to match Shilen Patel’s valuation of the forward [Super Deporte].
Regardless, Maja will not make the switch to Stamford Bridge in this transfer window or any window – it is hard to envision he would displace Nicolas Jackson in the starting lineup in West London.
Although Tottenham’s interest is yet to be ruled out, the same can be applied: should Ange Postecoglou require a backup to Dominic Solanke, it is not worth Maja sacrificing regular playing time at The Hawthorns.
Furthermore, he is in the race for the Championship Golden Boot, and should he receive the crown in May, paired with a potential Premier League promotion, West Brom will be able to demand twice the current valuation for his services.
One Premier League side may be out of the running but the Albion faithful will be keeping an eye on Maja as the developments continue throughout January.
