West Brom approach Sean Dyche and second manager after shock Wicky news
West Brom have contacted Steven Schumacher and Sean Dyche for the vacant manager position, according to DOOD.
The news comes after John Percy reported on Monday (13 January) that the Baggies ended talks with former Young Boys boss Raphael Wicky.
In a remarkable turnaround, Shilen Patel has opted to go in a different direction after finalising details with Wicky to take charge at The Hawthorns [Sky Sports], as reliable Baggies insider DOOD shared the latest update via X (13 January).
He wrote: “Schumacher and Dyche agents have been contacted [by West Brom].
“I’m genuinely shocked by the news. It was pretty much all finished and signed off with Wicky. That’s a huge turnaround.”
West Brom approach Steven Schumacher and Sean Dyche
Patel has the easiest decision of his West Brom ahead of him, if the choice for the next boss is between Schumacher and Dyche.
One has extensive Premier League experience, while the other couldn’t cut the mustard at Championship strugglers Stoke City.
While ex-Everton boss Dyche emerged as an unlikely contender for the position on Monday (13 January), no Baggies fan would have predicted Patel following through with an official approach.
The Albion owner, content with interim boss Chris Brunt, is not allowing himself to be rushed into a swift appointment, and it appears that his patience is about to pay off tremendously.
Dyche performed miracles on Merseyside in his two-year spell, and while he may still be reeling from his untimely dismissal, a chance to rebuild his reputation outside the Premier League spotlight could be the perfect move.
West Brom would transform into serious promotion candidates overnight should Dyche make the switch to The Hawthorns.
The decision to end the talks with Wicky may have appeared to be another setback, but the Baggies could yet benefit from it.
Only time will tell which of the two, if either, will become the new boss.
In other West Brom news, a Chelsea transfer update has emerged at Albion amid a £15m claim.
