West Brom new manager: Unexpected Tony Mowbray twist emerges
Tony Mowbray is interested in the vacant manager job at West Brom, according to Alan Nixon.
The journalist, reporting via his personal X account (13 January) simply replied “yes” when asked if Mowbray is open to a return to The Hawthorns.
It was previously claimed that the 61-year-old felt it would be too soon for him to take the reins at a club like West Brom [Charlie Haffenden], having just stepped up his recovery from cancer, but appears to have changed his stance now.
Tony Mowbray to return to The Hawthorns as West Brom manager?
The Baggies’ hunt for a new manager has become increasingly manager, with an appointment yet to be confirmed despite talks with several candidates.
It is worth noting that the Championship club have been on the lookout for a new boss since Carlos Corberan’s move to Valencia was confirmed on Christmas Eve.
Most recently, Raphael Wicky had emerged as Albion’s preferred candidate, but it emerged on Monday (13 January) that those talks have collapsed [John Percy].
A deal to hire Wicky fell through after he was unable to form his desired backroom staff.
West Brom are, therefore, back to square one, with Chris Brunt still in interim charge of the squad.

It would not be a surprise if the likes of Mowbray are back in the back following the setback in talks with Wicky.
The veteran tactician was in charge of the West Midlands club for three years between 2006 and 2009, and notably earned promotion to the Premier League in the 2007-08 season.
In other West Brom news, this Baggies ace could finally secure a permanent move away from The Hawthorns.
