Manager turns away from new West Brom talks in breaking update
West Brom have lost another managerial contender with Rene Hake not considering new talks to take charge at The Hawthorns, according to Lyall Thomas.
The Sky Sports journalist posted on X (15 January) that after a breakdown in talks with Raphael Wicky, Albion and Hake aren’t expected to re-enter discussions.
Hake has long been one of the favourites to replace Carlos Corberan at The Hawthorns, but the former Manchester United assistant is of interest to several European clubs and won’t consider resuming talks.
West Brom managerial search continues amid new setback
Having seemingly narrowed their wide field of managerial candidates down to two in the form of Wicky and Hake, the Baggies are now back to square one, having seen talks with both come to nothing.
Wicky missing out on a move to The Hawthorns due to a visa dispute over his backroom staff was a real blow and left Albion’s board at a disadvantage.

Few managers, either with or without experience of English football, go into jobs without a complement of staff alongside them, so the Baggies will be taking this into consideration now.
The likes of Steven Schumacher, who has managed across the EFL in his career, as well as Albion hero Tony Mowbray have been mooted, but even these deals face potential complications shortly.
Chris Brunt and his interim management team seemed to have run their race with an appointment on the horizon, but as more candidates slip away, Shilen Patel could be getting desperate.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies have suffered a catastrophic blow with one of their key men picking up a new injury.
