West Brom new manager: Tony Mowbray update emerges after developments
West Brom could return to the idea of hiring Tony Mowbray after failed moves for Raphael Wicky and Rene Hake, according to Adam Drury.
Writing in the Express & Star (15 January), Drury confirmed reports elsewhere that Hake – who has interest in Germany – won’t be replacing Carlos Corberan despite the move to bring Wicky in breaking down (Sky Sports News) over complications with his backroom team.
It means the Baggies are entering a fourth week in their search to find a successor for Corberan, who departed for Valencia on Christmas Eve.
Drury wrote: “Mowbray has spent a number of months out of the game, but it was revealed last week that talks had taken place between Albion and their former boss.
“The former defender, who has had a number of successful managerial spells in the Championship, is awaiting the green light to return to work following his health problems.
“Following talks last week, it is believed Albion decided to head in a different direction as they pursued a deal for Wicky.
“However, following developments earlier this week, it is though the club could still mount a bid to bring the much loved former boss back to The Hawthorns.”
Tony Mowbray would be a popular West Brom choice
Mowbray was an extremely popular figure during his first stint in charge at The Hawthorns after guiding the Baggies to promotion back in the 2007-08 campaign.
He has been out of work since departing Birmingham after being diagnosed with bowel cancer but is now ready to return to the dugout.

West Brom’s search is taking longer than most would have liked but the important thing is to get the appointment right and build on the solid work Corberan did at The Hawthorns.
Mowbray certainly knows the league and crucially knows the club. The more this process goes on the more you feel he is looking like a standout candidate.
In other West Brom news, one player who departed in the summer could already be on the move again this month.
