West Brom insider shares Tony Mowbray stumbling block amid manager talks

West Brom could face a “stumbling block” in their pursuit of Tony Mowbray due to the length of the contract that’s being offered, according to DOOD.

The Baggies insider reported via X (16 January) that while talks have been “ongoing” since Wednesday regarding his return to the Hawthorns, nothing is yet set in stone.

West Brom have been without a manager for some time now since the departure of Carlos Corberan and while a few names have been linked with the role, it now seems that Mowbray is the front-runner.

“Talks have been ongoing [since] yesterday,” DOOD wrote. “The length of the contract we are offering could be a stumbling block. Let’s hope it gets resolved.”

Tony Mowbray is an ideal candidate for West Brom

Now that Mowbray has been given the all-clear to return back to football [The Sun, 15 January], it feels like the timing could be perfect for both parties.

Although most fans would have likely preferred Corberan to stay at the helm and lead the Black Country club for the rest of the season, a return to Spain was too good for him to turn down.

A plethora of names have been linked with the Baggies’ hot seat since the Spaniard’s departure with Raphael Wicky almost signing on the dotted line before talks about his appointment broke down.

West Brom are currently seventh in the Championship table and are just one point out of the top-six spots.

However, with Josh Maja now out for an extended period and just over half of the winter transfer window remaining, it feels like an appointment needs to be made as soon as possible.

Otherwise, the Baggies could find themselves dropping further down the table and failing to meet expectations.
