Chris Brunt is set to take the next West Brom press conference on Friday as talks continue over a new manager, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper reports that Tony Mowbray had several meetings with the club last week, with the Albion taking on Stoke City on 18 January.

The Baggies initially hoped to have Carlos Corberan's successor in place before taking on the Potters but after talks with Raphael Wicky broke down over backroom staff, the process is now taking longer.

Brunt will face the media on 17 January, but talks over a permanent appointment could also escalate before the weekend as Mowbray remains interested in a return to The Hawthorns.

West Brom continue search for new manager appointment

The Baggies certainly would have wanted a new manager in place quicker, as they approach one month without a permanent appointment.

It remains unlikely the process will drag out until then, with Mowbray firmly in contention, however, some details would need to be ironed out for the former Albion boss.

Rene Hake, John Eustace and Luke Williams were also all mentioned in high consideration, with Mowbray currently the bookmakers' favourite with Sky Bet at 1/2, followed by Steven Schumacher at 7/1.

All the while, the board are continuing to assess the transfer market, with many fans hoping they can attract more strength in depth to The Hawthorns.

Following the Stoke game on Saturday, it's a quick turnaround before the trip to Middlesbrough on 21 January.
