Don Goodman shares honest West Brom promotion verdict amid manager uncertainty

Don Goodman believes there is only one play-off spot remaining in the Championship as West Brom battle to reach the Premier League.

West Brom’s search for their next manager is still ongoing and, if promotion hopes are to remain, it’s a situation that needs to be resolved imminently.

The winter transfer window provides teams with an excellent chance of boosting those hopes, but the managerial uncertainty has seen it take a hit.

Goodman, talking exclusively to West Brom News, claims the Baggies are now in a five-way scrap for the remaining play-off place.

“Let’s wait and see and see how the season pans out. I think there’s a genuine opportunity of a playoff spot [for West Brom],” explained Goodman.

“I think that they’re in a scrap, personally. I only think there’s one playoff spot left, if I’m honest with you.

Basically, West Brom are fighting with probably four or five other clubs for one playoff spot.

So there’s lots to play for, and there’ll be, hopefully, a bit of excitement. Hopefully there’s some recruitment in January, which will help the team and boost their chances of clinching that playoff spot.

West Brom need to showcase some urgency

It’s over three weeks since the departure of Carlos Corberan and the Baggies are still yet to find his successor.

Of course, that presents a problem on its own but the lack of said manager is also undoubtedly having a negative effect on their ability to attract new recruits.

Quite frankly, very few players, especially midway through a season, will be keen on joining a club without a clear indication as to who they’ll be playing under.

Efforts need to be ramped up at The Hawthorns if West Brom are to maintain their hopes of a top-six finish.

And if Goodman’s prediction of only one place being up for grabs is correct, they simply cannot afford to drop needless points in the coming weeks.
