Michael Dawson wowed by Mowbray news at West Brom live on air today

Michael Dawson is delighted to see Tony Mowbray back as West Brom manager.

The Sky Sports pundit is wowed by the 61-year-old’s return to management after leaving Birmingham City last year due to health issues.

Dawson describes Mowbray as a “real footballing man” who returns to The Hawthorns after his previous spell in the mid-2000s.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (18 January, 13:24), the 41-year-old said: “It’s a brilliant story. It really is. To see him well and wanting to get back in the dugout, we know how well he did at West Brom, and now to be going back. His first game will be against Middlesbrough midweek, another one of his former teams.

“Just a real footballing man. If you manage for as long as he’s managed, you have a hunger and love because there are so many ups and downs, so many challenges.

“Ultimately, when you get a manager’s job, you know you’re going get sacked. How do you bounce back from that, and do you have the drive and desire to want to do it again and then get knocked down and get back on that cycle and do it?

“Even after everything that he’s gone through since he left Birmingham. And the chance to go back to West Brom, I’m delighted.”

Tony Mowbray to take West Brom back to the Premier League

The English manager previously led the Baggies back to the Premier League, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he did so again.

As things stand, the Black Country club are still around the top six after an impressive start to the season under Carlos Corberan.

The Spanish manager started to falter towards the end of his tenure but left the West Midlands outfit within touching distance of the play-offs spots.

Chris Brunt did a decent job as interim head coach, but The Hawthorns faithful will now see their team play under Mowbray again.

In his previous stint at The Albion, the 61-year-old had enamoured the fans with his demeanour and style of play.

Many supporters had concerns about Corberan’s approach to matches, and it will be interesting to see how Mowbray sets up with the squad at his disposal.

Shilen Patel will evidently feel confident about making the right choice with the Englishman’s appointment, and all eyes will now be on him against Middlesbrough on Tuesday (21 January).
