West Brom make approach for new loan signing

West Brom have made an approach for a striker in the winter transfer window, according to DOOD.

The Baggies insider reported via his personal X account (19 January) that the move was set to be a loan deal but didn’t name who the player being targeted was.

The move comes after Tony Mowbray has just been re-appointed as the Black Country club’s boss and the fact that Josh Maja is out means that they need reinforcement.

“We have enquired about one but until it gets more serious I ain’t going to mention his name just yet. But we’re definitely looking,” he wrote while replying to a fan.

When asked whether it was a loan or a permanent deal, DOOD simply replied: “Loan.”

West Brom and Tony Mowbray need a striker this winter

While Karlan Grant and Grady Diangana have so far done a decent job of filling the void left by Maja, the gulf in quality between the three is still noticeable.

Maja is far more clinical and has much better vision than the aforementioned duo and while the Baggies also have Daryl Dike among their ranks, he is still working his way back to full fitness after serious injury.

At the moment, West Brom are in contention to earn a playoff place and if they want to keep things that way, reinforcement is almost certainly needed.

While they may have missed around half of the window due to being managerless, there’s still plenty of time for them to source some new talent to help bolster their ranks.

While no names have yet been mentioned, it feels like as long as one or two new faces are brought in, things will continue to go in the right direction and perhaps earn them a top-six finish.
