Richard Keys thrilled as Tony Mowbray returns to West Brom after seeing ‘hell’

Tony Mowbray almost “gave up” on his fight with cancer before returning as the West Brom manager, according to Richard Keys.

The former Sky Sports commentator is eager to see the veteran manager back in the dugout after his recent bout with cancer.

Keys believes Mowbray went to “hell and back” during his recovery and is hopeful that he can now hit the ground running at The Hawthorns after replacing Carlos Corberan.

“How good is it to see Tony Mowbray back at work?”, Keys wrote in his personal blog (20 January).

“It’s not long since Tony almost gave up on his fight with cancer. He’s been to hell and back recently.

“Welcome back Tony. And good luck to you.”

He earned promotion to the Premier League with the West Midlands outfit in the 2007-08 season and it will be remarkable if he can do the same this time.

Despite being without a permanent manager for almost a month, West Brom remain in the mix for promotion as they sit sixth in the Championship.
