West Brom transfer round-up: Albion striker set to leave, new signing collapses

West Brom are ramping up their levels of business in the winter transfer window with outgoings imminent and further incomings on the horizon.

The Baggies are on the hunt for reinforcements in several positions and have begun to kick-start their activity now a new manager is finally in situ – in the form of returning Albion legend, Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray is hoping to bring fresh faces into both his attack and midfield before the window shuts on 3 February, with the highly-anticipated signing of Isaac Price from Standard Liege finally being confirmed.

Here, West Brom News rounds up all the incoming and outgoing transfer news at The Hawthorns on Wednesday, 22 January.

Ali Al-Hamadi switch collapses at final hurdle for West Brom

Just minutes out from kick-off ahead of Albion’s Championship clash with Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, the East Anglian Daily Times reported that their move for Ali Al-Hamadi had broken down.

The Ipswich Town forward was set to join the Baggies on loan for the rest of the season, with a medical completed on 21 January as Mowbray looked to have solved the strikers crisis at The Hawthorns.

However, Ipswich chose to reverse their decision to sanction Al-Hamadi’s exit at the last minute, meaning the 22-year-old Iraq international heads back to Sussex, leaving Albion in the lurch.

West Brom youngster set for new transfer days after loan recall

While the Baggies hardly have a healthy depth of forwards for Mowbray to pick from at present, Hawthorns insider DOOD reported via X on 22 January that they’re set to sanction another exit.

The player in question is academy product Reyes Cleary, who only returned from a loan spell at Walsall on 7 January, and he’ll be heading back out in another temporary switch for more game-time.

FIFA rules on the number of clubs a player can feature for in a single season could restrict striker Cleary moving to another EFL side, with the destination of his new loan yet to be made clear.

West Brom set sights on out-of-contract Chelsea youngster

Having sealed the signing of Price from Standard Liege, Albion remain keen on bolstering their midfield and Mark McAdam reported on 21 January that they’ve turned to Chelsea starlet Harvey Vale.

The 21-year-old is an England youth international, can play across the midfield line and at wing-back, and is wanted by a number of clubs in the Championship and across several of Europe’s top leagues.

With QPR, Oxford United, OH Leuven, Hannover 96 and SC Heerenveen all interested, it remains to be seen if the Baggies can get a move for Vale over the line, with his contract set to expire this summer.

In other West Brom news, one Albion star was slammed on Sky Sports for what he did in the first half against Middlesbrough.
