West Brom medical failed: Albion back out of deal as groin issue flagged

West Brom opted not to press ahead with a deal for Ipswich Town striker Ali Al-Hamadi due an injury that was flagged during his medical, according to WBA Report.

The Baggies insider reported via X (24 January) that a problematic groin injury was raised during his medical, which caused Albion to back out of the deal.

However, the story from Ipswich’s side is that they were not prepared to sell unless they had a replacement ready as they look to retain his value.

West Brom still need a striker

The collapse of this deal will no doubt have been frustrating for many at the time as the Baggies are looking to bring in a striker before the end of the transfer window with urgency.

With top scorer Josh Maja set for a period on the sidelines due to suffering with an injury, Tony Mowbray needs to replace his contribution in the side if they are going to continue their play-off push this term.

However, if an injury was flagged then the Baggies surely did the right thing by backing out of the deal as the last thing they needed was a player coming in that was at high risk of then needing to be sidelined too.

There is still time before the 3 February deadline for Albion to do the business they need to and Mowbray needs to ensure that his additions are going to be the boost required.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have a “no-brainer” transfer decision to make.
