West Brom striker: ‘Outrageously high’ Willem Geubbels bid could be accepted

St Gallen could accept an “outrageously high” bid for striker Willem Geubbels amid interest from West Brom, according to 4-4-2.

The Swiss website reported [24 January] that while St Gallen have made the decision not to sell the 23-year-old in the winter transfer window, their minds could change if a big offer were to be submitted.

It is understood the Frenchman has no exit clause in his contract, with Leeds United and Norwich City all keeping tabs on the striker’s signature [Sky Sports].

West Brom to sign Willem Geubbels?

Tony Mowbray is in desperate need of a new striker signing before the winter transfer window slams shut, especially with Josh Maja now a doubt for the next few weeks [DOOD].

Daryl Dike has yet to return to full fitness, and with the Baggies’ weaknesses without Maja highlighted during the 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday 21 January, another forward is vital.

The Nigerian has scored 36 per cent of Albion’s goals in the Championship this term, just showing how reliant his teammates are on him hitting the back of the net, but that is no longer an option.

Devante Cole has done little to impress since signing from Barnsley during the summer, so a move for Geubells could make or break the side’s season, though it will come at a hefty cost.

It is unknown exactly what that number could be, but considering the financial issues that the Baggies have experienced in recent seasons, they are unlikely to beat the likes of Leeds and Norwich to his signature.

That is unfortunate because, with six goals and two assists in 13 league appearances, he would be an ideal addition before the 3 February deadline.

Mowbray must consider finding an alternative after a move for Ipswich Town’s Ali Al-Hamadi broke down, but it will not be an easy task before the window slams shut until next summer.

In other West Brom news, a Premier League striker whose move to The Hawthorns collapsed is now on his way to a rival Championship club.
