West Brom transfers: New timeline mooted for Willem Geubbels deal

West Brom could look at signing FC St Gallen striker Willem Geubbels in the summer transfer window, according to Santi Aouna.

The Foot Mercato journalist reported via the outlet’s website (24 January) that despite the Baggies’ reported interest, Luton are currently in “advanced talks” to secure his services before the winter window closes.

The report adds that Norwich are also another Championship club who could look to make a move for the 23-year-old in the summer rather than before the 3 February deadline.

Tony Mowbray needs to add another striker to his West Brom ranks

At the moment, West Brom are sitting pretty comfortably in seventh place with the Black Country club just one point adrift of the top six.

While things have gone fairly well for the Baggies so far, as we get closer to the end of the 2024/25 season, clubs often turn things up a gear and can come from out of nowhere to earn themselves a play-off place.

And, with Josh Maja now ruled out for an extended period, if Tony Mowbray wants to give his team the best chance at earning a place in the top six, it feels like a new number nine needs to be brought in as soon as possible.

Ali Al-Hamadi seemed to be the most likely candidate to come in and bolster their ranks but after that deal fell through, it feels like West Brom have sat back a little too much.

Even though Geubbels would likely be a solid addition for next season, it feels like West Brom’s attention should be turned towards some recruitment before the 3 February deadline.
