West Brom 'could land promotion' with transfer for 'underrated' midfielder

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman believes the signing of Vancouver Whitecaps star Stuart Armstrong could boost the promotion hopes of West Brom if a deal can be sealed before 3 February.

As of yet, the Baggies have made just one addition to their squad with the signing of Isaac Price but the expectation is that they will remain active in the coming days.

Armstrong has been linked with a move to The Hawthorns [DOOD], and Goodman, when speaking exclusively to West Brom News, thinks it could be the type of signing to boost their chances of achieving promotion.

"He is one of those players that I think is massively, massively underrated," explained Goodman.

"The biggest problem you'll have for him is keeping him fit, and that's why he struggled at Southampton last season. If you could get him and keep him fit, you would have a serious player on your hands that could definitely have a positive impact in the promotion race. I really, really like him.

"He's got lots of experience. It's just a case of, can you keep him fit?"

West Brom need to be active in the remainder of transfer window

Under the stewardship of Tony Mowbray, West Brom are in an excellent position to achieve their ultimate goal of a top-six finish but with the right signing, the top two aren't yet out of reach.

When it comes to the right signing, Armstrong definitely fits that bill having made just shy of 200 appearances in the English leagues, many of which have come in the Premier League.

As things stand, the Baggies are believed to be ahead of Burnley in the race to sign the former Southampton star [FLW].

His experience matched with his quality on the ball could be a huge addition to the Baggies squad but as mentioned by Goodman, keeping him fit could prove to be the barrier.

Nevertheless, if West Brom can muster up a deal for the Scotsman, it would be a neat pickup and certainly one that will improve them for the remainder of the campaign.
