West Brom ‘set for major transfer coup’ as Premier League striker loan on cards

Don Goodman believes that the loan signing of Chelsea striker Marc Guiu would be a huge “positive” for West Brom if they can get a deal over the line.

Following on from the injury sustained by Josh Maja, West Brom have been in dire need of attacking reinforcements this winter with the deadline soon approaching.

Guiu of Chelsea has been linked with a move to the Midlands [DOOD] and Goodman, when speaking exclusively to West Brom News, thinks it could be a shrewd pick-up.

“He’s played in the Europa Conference League for Chelsea and he’s scored quite a few goals [six in six],” explained Goodman.

“He looks sharp. He’s also missed quite a few goals as well. But the point is, he was getting into areas where he was getting opportunities to score.

“I like the look of him, particularly, you know, dropping into the Championship and possibly getting an opportunity of regular first-team football. Then, yeah, I certainly wouldn’t be averse to thinking that he would be a real positive signing for West Brom.”

West Brom need to sign a striker

Although the Baggies are due to be boosted by the return of Daryl Dike, the need for a new striker’s arrival is still evident if they are to maintain their ambitions of promotion.

With Maja sidelined, West Brom cannot afford to hedge their bets on Dike coming straight back into the team and having an immediate impact and the signing of Guiu would certainly soften those concerns.

The Spaniard is very highly rated and his record in the Conference League for Chelsea speaks for itself and if he can replicate that level of performance in the Championship, the Baggies will have pulled off a major coup.

Just days remain in the transfer window and if the Baggies are to succeed in their attempts to sign a new frontman, they will have to ramp up their efforts.
