Lee Hendrie blown away by what Alex Palmer did in West Brom loss v Plymouth
Alex Palmer blew Lee Hendrie away with his “brilliant save” for West Brom in the 2-1 loss against Plymouth Argyle.
Tony Mowbray was questioned by the Albion faithful for refusing to make a change to the side that won 5-1 against Portsmouth last time out, and rightfully so – his men blew a one-goal lead at Home Park on Saturday (1 February).
However, Palmer was a standout for the visitors, leaving Hendrie in awe live on Sky Sports Main Event (1 February, 2:09pm) after he denied Michael Obafemi in the second half.
He said: “[Ryan] Hardie does brilliantly, little cutback. [Darko] Gyabi [is] obviously offside, that’s where the flag went up. But what a save that was from Alex Palmer [the ball goes] right down to his right, he has to get down – Obafemi must have thought he [had] scored. Brilliant save.”
West Brom lose ground in the Championship play off race
After dismantling Portsmouth at The Hawthorns last weekend, another clash against a Championship-struggling side must have felt like a dream come true for Mowbray.
The Baggies will now return empty-handed from the South West after a Ryan Hardie brace sealed a shocking upset for Plymouth.
Although the loss will likely not have severe ramifications at the top of the table, it is undoubtedly a golden opportunity missed to earn further ground on their promotion rivals.
However, Palmer can hold his head high despite conceding two goals, as the deficit could have been more had it not been for his efforts.

West Brom are believed to be ready to open talks to extend the shot-stopper’s stay in the West Midlands [talkwba] – a wise move considering his stellar form this year.
Premier League promotion is still on the line, and Albion will rely on Palmer heavily until the end of the season to help see the side through – but results such as today must be nipped in the bud now.
