Adam Armstrong transfer twist as loan fee emerges at West Brom

West Brom have been put off signing Southampton striker Adam Armstrong due to the structure of the deal, according to DOOD.

The Baggies insider reported via X [3 February] that while there was communication with the player’s agent, the loan fee and Albion potentially paying 70 per cent of his wage have halted any deal.

A move has not been completely ruled out, but with hours left until the transfer window slams shut, there is currently no agreement between the two parties.

West Brom to strike late deal to sign Adam Armstrong?

With Josh Maja sidelined and Daryl Dike yet to return from injury, it makes total sense for Tony Mowbray’s team to be targeting a striker on loan for the rest of the season.

The Baggies have a great chance of finishing in the Championship play-off spots, currently sitting in sixth on goal difference, but they need to bring in attacking reinforcement if they are to cement their spot in the table.

While Armstrong has just two goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, the 27-year-old is a proven goalscorer in the Championship, netting 21 times last term.

He even added another 13 assists to his record in the Championship last season, proving exactly what he can bring to The Hawthorns, but it seems a deal is currently unlikely.

Mowbray still has Karlan Grant at his disposal but supporters are confused by his lack of appearances since the new manager’s appointment, and Devante Cole has not impressed at all.

Will Lankshear is certainly an exciting signing, joining from Tottenham on loan, but the 19-year-old is entirely inexperienced outside of Hotspur Way, with only six first-team appearances to his name.

Bringing Armstrong to the team would alleviate any pressures in the final third.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have accepted a £10million bid for Tom Fellows, with the player on his way for a medical.
